Our Lady of Lourdes Day, World Day of the Sick, February 11, 2020 A sweet smile from the sky … reflected on our faces… (with this hymn our Mass began). The Virgin Mary is the smile of Heaven, she is the tenderness of God embodied. She is a loving mother for every sick and for all the weak and suffering. She is the leader in the path of faith, the healing of every human being and the leader in the path of the Church The Virgin Mary nurtured Jesus with perfect love and tenderness as he grew each day in Nazareth, and accompanied him on his journey. She was at the foot of the cross, offering her presence and comfort, the tenderness of God, to Jesus. This is the message that we all must fulfill by reflecting the love and tenderness of God to others.
Jesus came for sufferers and knew how to show them closeness, feelings of love and affection, but the great work that Jesus has done over the ages and ages is to heal a person’s heart from the disease of sin that leads to death. The anointing of the sick is a powerful and important weapon for every person before his last transit. It is strengthened by the grace of the Holy Spirit and takes the basic secret of his salvation. We thank God for every person who works in the field of serving the sick: nuns, doctors and nurses, and for every human being who serves a sick. They reflect the spirit of Jesus, and every one of them participates in the mission of the whole Church. They assure sicks that they are not alone and that they are not abandoned; they are dear to the family of the church, to the family of Jesus. In the Sacrifice of the Mass, we carried our diseases and aches and presented them for the healing of the sick. To the Virgin Mary, we presented everyone who offers their life and time to care for the sick: the sick of the body, the soul, and the spirit, and we asked her to bless the work of their hands and the generosity of their hearts. It was beautiful participation of the brotherhood of Iman and Nour (faith and light) with the congregation who gave richness and blessing by their welcome presence. The warmth of the hearts of those present in the church greatly reduced the impact of the bitter cold. Thank you to everyone who attended and participated in this blessed prayer. Happy Feast Day.
