Stations of the Cross…the first week…

Jesus carrying the cross I see you, Jesus, crowned with thorns, as you kisses your cross. Accept Him as you have always accepted everything and everyone. They carry the heavy and coarse cross on you, but you do not rise up and do not throw away this unjust and vile instrument of torture. You take it and start walking with it on your shoulders. How many times have I been irritated and angry at the responsibilities I have received and have felt that they are heavy or unjust. You don’t do that. Though you were young, you were obedient and took seriously what life had to offer you, on every occasion it appeared before you as if you wanted to go into the depths of things to discover that there is always something more than what is apparent, a hidden meaning and an astonishment. Thanks to you, I understand that this cross is a cross of salvation and liberation, a cross that supports over obstacles, a light burden and a yoke that does not weigh heavily. The Cross itself, a sign of humiliation and suffering for man, now appears by the grace of your sacrifice as a promise that from every death life will be resurrected and in every darkness the light will shine again. And we can declare: “Hail to you, O Cross, our only hope!” I ask you, Lord, make us accept our sufferings in the light of the cross, a sign of our faith, and when your love enlightens us, make us embrace our crosses.
